With the start of the penultimate date of the qualifying round of the Major Leagues, the Tampa Bay Rays, where José “Chema” Caballero from Sante plays, and the Philadelphia Phillies, team of Edmundo Sosa from the capital, began a particular series this Monday.

Both Panamanians have stood out this season, although a muscle injury will keep Sosa out of action for 10 days. Sosa, recently recognized by the MLB as a model player, has improved his offensive average to .264, with 35 runs scored and 30 RBIs, surpassing his numbers from last year. For his part, “Chema” Caballero has established himself in the Rays’ infield and, with 39 stolen bases, leads the American League, getting closer to the title that Chirican Omar Moreno won in 1978-79 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The series is held at Citizen Bank Park, home of the Phillies, and will conclude this Wednesday. With about 15 games remaining, some teams are already classified, but the fight for the last places will be defined in the coming days. The end of the season is near!
