Felipe Chapman defends Fiscal Rules and announces containment measures in Panama
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Felipe Chapman, participated in the Inside LatAm: Central America 2024 event, organized by Moody’s, where he analyzed Panama’s public finances and fiscal policy, highlighting his defense of fiscal rules and the need to focus subsidies.
“I have always been a supporter of the fiscal rule,” Chapman said, highlighting the importance of a stable fiscal architecture for the next decade.
When consulted by Mauro Leos, Associate Managing Director of Moody’s, Chapman explained that at the end of the first semester, income was 18% below budget, while expenses exceeded expectations. “We quickly implemented a $1.387 billion cost containment program,” he added.
They update and renew health guidance strategies in Chiriquí
Educators and health promoters from the Ministry of Health, Chiriquí region, met this Wednesday to develop a seminar-workshop and discussion on new updates and strategies to guide the community around communicable and non-communicable diseases.
The regional coordinator of Health Education, Eyra Martínez, explained that the aim is to strengthen community teams and thereby increase campaigns on prevention issues “we are developing techniques to reach the population and raise awareness about issues such as: HIV, tuberculosis, etc. such as Dengue or those derived from poor diet or bad habits that we acquire”.
She added that in Chiriquí there have been 1,134 cases of dengue and 4 deaths so far this year; However, as the last few months arrive in which torrential downpours occur, it is necessary to redouble efforts in eliminating garbage and potential mosquito breeding sites.
MIDA extension workers receive training in the use of georeferencing tools
Extension workers from the Ministry of Agricultural Development, Regional of Chiriquí, participated in the workshop: “Use of GPS (Global Positioning System) and GIS (Geographic Information System) tools, via cell phone.
The activity was part of the project “Sustainable land management and restoration of productive landscapes in hydrographic basins, for the implementation of the national goals of neutrality of land degradation in Panama.”
The activity was attended by the Regional Director of MIDA, Félix Martínez, accompanied by the coordinator of the Agro-Environmental and Climate Change Unit, Santiago Morales. With this training, Martínez explained, participants will be able to carry out monitoring and georeferencing of farms located in the Chiriquí Viejo River basin, beneficiaries of the project.
MiAMBIENTE present at the Interinstitutional Recycling Fair at UNACHI
The Regional Directorate of MiAMBIENTE in Chiriquí participates until today, September 12, in the Interinstitutional Recycling Fair organized by the Autonomous University of Chiriquí.
Ernesto Ponce, regional director of MiAMBIENTE, indicated that the fair offers educational tables, crafts, conferences and workshops focused on environmental care, recycling and reuse of inorganic waste such as plastic, glass and cooking oil.
The MiAMBIENTE stand has the participation of the Eco Club and RECIBA, who promote environmental education and collaborate with authorities on environmental legislative initiatives.
MICI and ACOVIPA meet to strengthen collaboration in logistics processes
The Vice Minister of Industries and Commerce, Eduardo Arango, met with the Association of Merchants and Distributors of Food and Similar Products of Panama (ACOVIPA) to exchange opinions and knowledge, with the aim of collaborating in streamlining logistics processes.
The vice minister highlighted the MICI’s commitment to supporting the development of the associations’ activities, promoting the country’s progress and ensuring that companies meet optimal quality standards in their products for consumers.
ACOVIPA, a business organization with more than 70 years of experience, brings together importers and distributors of food and mass consumption products, as well as manufacturers, processors of food products and supermarket chains in Panama.
The association plays a key role in boosting the national economy. Roberto Pretelt, president of ACOVIPA, also participated in the meeting, along with Juan Villarreal, Nikos Mamais, Moisés Islarslan, Gabriel Marengo and Roberto Siem, members of the ACOVIPA delegation.
The impact in Paris after the 2024 Olympic Games
The universal appeal of the recently concluded XXXIII Summer Olympic Games, followed by the Paralympic Games, is being analyzed in Paris by merchants, businessmen and tourism promoters. Although tourist influx increased, many businesses saw their income reduced due to strict security measures in sports areas, which limited access to buyers.
Experts predict that the economic effects could manifest before the end of the year, once the facilities used during the games are reintegrated into the normal flow of the city.
