Chiriquí Chamber of Commerce visits Puerto Barú project site
The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Chiriquí (CAMCHI) visited the town of Chiriquí, where the construction of the ambitious Puerto Barú project in David is expected. This initiative, key to the development of the region, promises to promote economic diversification, attract new investments and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
Puerto Barú is emerging as a strategic point that will facilitate global trade, contributing to sustainable economic growth both nationally and internationally.
During the tour, the representatives of the Chamber stressed the importance of this work for local communities, highlighting the opportunities it will provide to young people and the boost it will give to the progress of the western region of Panama. In turn, residents of Punta Tierra and neighboring sectors in the town of Chiriquí, arrived at the tour point to show their rejection of those who oppose the project.
ATTT meets with transporters in Chiriquí and visits the regions of Coclé and Veraguas
The director of the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT), Jorge Luis Ábrego, carried out a work tour in response to the concerns of transporters. In Chiriquí, he met with representatives of the selective and collective sectors, and the National Chamber of Transportation (Canatra), to address issues such as the operation of transportation platforms and pending procedures in the ATTT.
Ábrego reaffirmed his commitment to finding solutions in compliance with the law. The meeting was held in the governorate of Chiriquí, with the participation of local authorities and representatives of the National Police and the Ombudsman’s Office.
In addition, Ábrego visited the regional offices of Coclé and Veraguas to strengthen institutional management, remembering that “as public servants, we owe both the transporters and the users.”
Flower Parade inaugurated in Tierras Altas
This weekend the Flower Parade was inaugurated in Volcán, Tierras Altas, Chiriquí, which will take place until September 17, highlighting the agricultural production of the region, especially vegetables under the theme: Tierras Altas, Your best destination! The Flower Parade seeks to awaken the interest of visitors in the wonders that the Tierras Altas district, Chiriquí, offers, with a diversity of species in fauna and flora, in addition to its agricultural, livestock and coffee production.
The activity reaffirms its commitment to promoting the beauties of this region, showing the world the potential and riches that are hidden in these Panamanian lands.
During the inauguration, the regional director of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA), Félix Martínez, together with the regional deputy director, Jeyson Ortega, and the national deputy director of fairs, Kalizol Caballero, recognized the more than 25-year career of the extension agents Mixela Quintero and Sonia Santamaría, who have contributed significantly to fairs in the country.
First surgery for the congenital disease “Ebstein’s Anomaly” in an adult is performed in Chiriquí
In Chiriquí, the first surgery for the congenital disease “Ebstein’s Anomaly” was performed in a 17-year-old patient, a rare heart defect. The operation, which included the reconstruction of the cardiac anatomy and the replacement of the tricuspid valve, was a complete success at the Dr. Rafael Hernández L. Hospital Center of the Social Security Fund (CSS) in David.
Dr. Oman Jiménez explained that the tricuspid valve was poorly positioned, causing symptoms such as fatigue and chest pain. The surgery, which lasted four hours, marks a milestone in provincial medicine. Dr. Idanela Ortiz highlighted that this achievement opens opportunities for patients with cardiovascular pathologies in the region.
The patient recovers favorably in intensive care, where the medical team monitors his evolution. This procedure restarts the open heart surgery program at the hospital, suspended since the pandemic, after operating on more than 150 patients between 2012 and 2020.
DGI maintains massive inspection in the country, in order to verify correct billing in businesses
The General Directorate of Revenue (DGI) has started a national operation to verify the compliance of businesses in terms of billing and use of fiscal equipment or electronic invoice.
Ronald Santamaría, Head of Collection, explained that all establishments must have the sign requiring the delivery of an invoice visible, as part of compliance with the ITBMS (7%).
The lack of this sign or the certification of the billing method entails fines of B/. 100. In addition, it is monitored that electronic transactions comply with regulatory requirements, such as the Single Taxpayer Registry (RUC).
The sanctions for non-compliance range from B/. 500 to B/. 1,000, and in cases of recidivism, up to B/. 10,000. Víctor Fernández, from the Billing Section, invites taxpayers to use the “Report My Invoice” tool to report businesses that do not issue invoices, thus promoting fair competition.

Finally, Rockies pitcher Justin Lawrence had a rough outing, allowing three earned runs, including two home runs, in one inning of work. Lawrence is 4-4 in 53 games this season, with a 6.04 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 56.2 innings worked.
