Minera Panamá anuncia posible suspensión temporal de operaciones
Debido a los bloqueos ilegales por parte de pequeñas embarcaciones que han tenido lugar en el puerto internacional Punta Rincón -sitio de desembarque de materiales e insumos que se emplean para la operación de la mina-, Minera Panamá ha reducido sus operaciones a un tren de procesamiento de mineral y espera quedarse sin suministros para la planta de generación de energía aproximadamente a mediados de la semana que comienza hoy, 20 de noviembre de 2023.
Los bloqueos están impidiendo la entrega de suministros necesarios para operar la planta de energía. Independientemente de las necesidades de las operaciones, la seguridad y el bienestar de la fuerza laboral de Minera Panamá es la prioridad de la empresa. Las autoridades locales están presentes y continúan monitoreando y evaluando la situación para lograr un retorno definitivo a las operaciones marítimas. Si las acciones ilegales continúan impidiendo los suministros necesarios para operar la planta de energía, la empresa reducirá el tren de procesamiento restante esta semana y suspenderá temporalmente la producción.
Además de los importantes pagos de impuestos y regalías que realiza la empresa, la mina representa más del 2% de la población activa total de Panamá y colabora con proveedores locales por valor de casi 20 millones de dólares por semana. La contribución económica general de la mina al Estado de Panamá se estima en más de 50 millones de dólares por semana, el equivalente a alrededor del 5% del PIB. Este ingreso se podría ver afectado si la operación de la mina no continúa. La empresa continúa reservando todos sus derechos legales locales e internacionales con respecto a los desarrollos en Panamá.
Minera Panama announces possible temporary suspension of operations
Due to the illegal blockades by small vessels that have taken place at the Punta Rincón international port – a landing site for materials and inputs used for the operation of the mine – Minera Panama has reduced its operations to an ore processing train and expects to run out of supplies for the power generation plant approximately in the middle of the week that begins today. The blockades are preventing the delivery of supplies needed to operate the power plant. In addition to the company’s significant tax and royalty payments, the mine represents more than 2% of Panama’s total workforce and collaborates with local suppliers to the tune of nearly $20 million per week. The mine’s overall economic contribution to the State of Panama is estimated at more than $50 million per week, the equivalent of about 5% of GDP. This revenue could be affected if the mine’s operation does not continue. The company continues to reserve all of its local and international legal rights with respect to developments in Panama.
Arranca la siembra de poroto en Chiriquí
La siembra de poroto, uno de los granos más consumidos por los panameños, ya se inició en la provincia de Chiriquí, según lo confirmó el director regional del Ministerio de Desarrollo Agropecuario, Alcibiades Araúz.
La siembra inicia en zonas de Renacimiento (Río Sereno y Caisán) a mediados de octubre, y luego a partir de noviembre, se extiende hacia otras áreas como San Andrés y Santa Rosa en Bugaba, Potrerillos (Dolega) y Hornitos en Gualaca, informó Araúz.
El especialista en el cultivo de esta leguminosa, José Luis Núñez, recomendó a los agricultores realizar la preparación del suelo aplicando mínima labranza y estar atentos al comportamiento climático, para decidir la fecha de siembra.
Bean planting begins in Chiriqui

Ministra de Educación reitera importancia del regreso a las escuelas
La ministra de Educación, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, reiteró la importancia de regresar a las escuelas, por cuanto, dijo que es importante enviar el mensaje de llegar a un punto de entendimiento y, en ese sentido, hay docentes y estudiantes que se han incorporado a las clases y se mantienen reuniones con directivas de padres de familia de todo el país.
Sobre la supuesta sugerencia de permitir que los alumnos de distintos niveles de educación aprueben el año con 2.5 de promedio, Gorday de Villalobos aclaró que “en ningún momento hemos recibido de los padres esa propuesta”.
“El sistema de calificación está establecido en nuestra norma, ellos en ningún momento en las reuniones que hemos tenido lo han solicitado, no ha habido ninguna solicitud de ese tipo”, reiteró la jefa de la cartera educativa.
La ministra reconoció que hay áreas donde es difícil el abastecimiento, donde los docentes están visiblemente en los paros y este periodo, definitivamente, se debe extender, pero siempre hacer los ajustes para no hacerlo más allá de enero del año lectivo 2023.
Minister of Education reiterates importance of return to schools

Estudiantes de la UNACHI realizan labor social dentro del Vivero Forestal de Mi Ambiente
Ocho estudiantes de la licenciatura de Recursos Naturales de la universidad UNACHI, pertenecientes a tercer y cuarto año de las Cátedras de Contaminación Ambiental y Biodiversidad, se encuentran realizando labor social dentro del Vivero forestal de MiAMBIENTE Chiriquí.
Dentro de las instalaciones del vivero, los estudiantes han aprendido el manejo general y funcionamiento de este, preparación de sustrato, llenado de bolsas y sus técnicas, camas de germinación y repicar plantones y clasificarlos. Además, diferenciar las especies de árboles y su importancia.
Se planteó la necesidad de reforestar, donde a través de solicitudes a la Regional de MiAMBIENTE. Se aprovechan unas 28 especies para proyectos de reforestación de instituciones de gobierno, sociedad civil, fincas con ojos de agua, donde los jóvenes han podido compartir conocimientos con los interesados en proyectos verdes.
Cabe destacar que un vivero forestal reproduce diferentes especies de árboles, tanto para reforestación y también permite al medio ambiente que los árboles absorban dióxido de carbono y liberen oxígeno para una mejor calidad de aire.
UNACHI students carry out social work within the Mi Ambiente Forest Nursery
Eight students of the Natural Resources degree of the UNACHI University, belonging to the third and fourth year of the Chairs of Environmental Pollution and Biodiversity, are carrying out social work within the Forest Nursery of MiAMBIENTE Chiriquí.
Within the nursery facilities, the students have learned the general management and operation of the nursery, preparation of substrate, filling of bags and their techniques, germination beds and chiming seedlings and classifying them. Also, differentiate the species of trees and their importance.
The need for reforestation was raised, where through requests to the Regional of MiAMBIENTE. Some 28 species are used for reforestation projects of government institutions, civil society, farms with water springs, where young people have been able to share knowledge with those interested in green projects.
It should be noted that a forest nursery reproduces different species of trees, both for reforestation and allows the environment for the trees to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen for better air quality.
